A first-of-its-kind collaboration empowering the next generation of girls in hockey
The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Mentorship Program is a groundbreaking league-wide initiative developed in collaboration with Strong Girls United. Together, we’re building a new model for how professional sports can connect with youth—combining athlete mentorship, mental skills, and community to inspire confidence, leadership, and belonging both on and off the ice.
ABOUTÂ THE PROGRAM
-
Direct mentorship from PWHL players who serve as role models for young athletes in each of the eight league markets. Each team has three PWHL Athlete Mentors and 15 local mentees.
-
Twice a monthly virtual sessions - One call is led by SGU, bringing in experts and focusing on confidence, resilience, teamwork, and mental wellness. The second call includes the PWHL athlete mentors.
-
A supportive community of peers and mentors working together to strengthen self-belief and connection through sport.

ROOTED IN THE STRONG GIRLS UNITED MODEL
Through its evidence-based FAM (Female Athlete Mentorship) program, developed in 2020, Strong Girls United partners with leagues, schools, and organizations nationwide to integrate mentorship and mental skills training into sport. The collaboration with the PWHL marks the next evolution of this work—bringing the SGU model to a professional league level and reaching girls across North America.
