WHY WE RUN
We run to break assumptions and build a community that empowers girls and women! This race is open to everyone, regardless of gender or background. Itās not just about running; itās about challenging stereotypes and showcasing the power of unity in sports. Inspired by Coach Katie Stannardās experience, where assumptions often overshadowed her leadership, weāre turning frustration into positive action. By lacing up your sneakers and hitting the pavement, youāre supporting a mission that uplifts women and challenges preconceptions. Letās run together, break barriers, and prove that anyone can accomplish incredible goals when given the opportunity and belief. Join the movement and make a differenceāone stride at a time!
NOT JUST A RACE
Our run coincides with the anniversary of Title IX and celebrates Olympic Day, adding an extra layer of significance to the occasion.
Whether youāre lacing up your running shoes or planning to be a spirited spectator, make your way to Bug Light State Park in Portland, ME, for a day filled with joy and camaraderie. Volunteer female college athletes will be onsite to run games and Olympic themed activities, so be sure to bring the kids along!

WANT TO PITCH IN?
For those who want to support the SG United Foundation but prefer to skip the run, no worries ā you can contribute by making a donation below or by volunteering! Your generosity is greatly appreciated, and every contribution helps us in our mission to empower females across the state to aim high and achieve their goals. Rest assured, all proceeds from the event will directly benefit the SG United Foundation. Thank you for joining us in making a positive impact!
āJust A Girl 5k was the first race I participated in and I can honestly say I cannot wait for the next one! The atmosphere made me feel as though I could have run 10 miles, and I am not a runner. The support and encouragement I witnessed that day was inspiring and although one 5k a year may be enough for me, I am proud to participate in this one.ā
